As part of proactive measures to safeguard lives, protect infrastructure, and mitigate flooding ahead of the rainy season, the administration of the Executive Chairman of Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area, Hon. Ogidan Azeez, has commenced the desilting of drainage systems along Coker Road and Catholic Mission Street.

The exercise forms part of a broader council-wide environmental intervention aimed at clearing accumulated silt, debris, and blockages from drainage channels to ensure free flow and prevent flooding in vulnerable areas.

The Hon. Ogidan-led administration reiterated that effective drainage maintenance remains a critical component of its infrastructure and environmental sustainability agenda. It noted that timely desilting not only protects roads from premature deterioration but also enhances public health and safety.

The ongoing operation is being carried out by the Council’s environmental team, with technical measures taken to ensure the thorough cleaning of covered drainage sections for maximum efficiency.

Residents and business owners along the affected corridors are advised to cooperate with field personnel and refrain from indiscriminate waste disposal into drainage channels, as such practices contribute significantly to blockages and flooding.

The administration remains committed to sustaining environmental sanitation efforts across all wards as part of its broader vision to build a cleaner, safer, and more resilient Coker-Aguda.
